My Top 5 Books of 2020

Usually an avid reader, 2020 saw me took a break from reading for a while. With shut downs and lock downs and news on the daily rule changes coming through faster on social media than directly through the governments’ and regular news outlets, I found myself scrolling instead of reading – for several months.

Once I stopped scrolling, I felt anxious without anything to do. What could I do? What did anyone do? What was I supposed to do? Oh yeah – read!

The Lone Tree on the Cliff

Lone Tree on the Cliff

Last week I went on a gorgeous walk to see my favourite lone tree on the cliff.

Every surfer/photographer/bushwalker in the area knows this tree. I sat down on the grass, surrounded by butterflies, and did some filming for my next video clip.

The Maps of the Universe

While I’ve been enjoying watching our fruit trees begin to grow fruit and our veggies popping up, I’ve been enjoying observing the daily (sometimes even hourly) changes in all our plants. I have always loved looking at leaves, and seeing the lines criss cross like maps.

When I look at a leaf like this, it looks like some sections of the land from high up in an airplane, where the desert meets the bush. The geometry of the universe is found in all living things, and I wonder when I look at these leaves – am I looking at the map of the universe? Is this the key right here?

But then I wonder… If this is the key, it was with me all along. I never needed to look anywhere else but this tiny pocket of land where this small tree and these small leaves are. A key reminder that the universe resides in us always, and we never needed to go looking for it.

Oh hai - don't mind me. Just snacking on your broad beans.

A decree and declaration

Anna Shelley

Nature always wins.

The next evolution is Nature. She gets to take back her home. She gets to have all parts of her self returned.

What do we want to stand for, even if we’re going to sink?

I’ve done my bit, but when do those in power do their bit? It’s bloody expensive buying 100% natural zero waste slow fashion. It takes effort sourcing quality natural zero waste materials, and a lot of time to make clothes yourself. It takes time and energy growing and making all your food from scratch.

As it stands, living in a minimal impact manner is reserved for those who can afford it – in time, energy and finance.

I did a merkabah meditation and then this happened…

Yesterday I was diving into the merkabah and its meanings. I’ve dived into it several years ago when the image of it came to me during meditation, but it wasn’t until afterwards that I looked it up to see that it is a sacred geometric shape used in several cultures.

Here’s one I drew about 2 years ago… oh, and there’s an interesting correlation here I just remembered. More on this later…

Lockdown Life

This week I’ve done pretty much nothing, but accepted the extreme lethargy that comes with life in lockdown. My goal has been to be happy with not achieving anything.

As someone who has always strived to win – from music competitions growing up, to powerlifting and kettlebell competitions later on – it’s been an interesting process being happy with being average. I’ve always been either all in, or all out. This middle ground is unfamiliar and curious.

As I walk through the cool waters of Middle Ground, I find my feet dipping into muddy sections. Days consist of playing Lego, reading and making comics, watching new vegetable seeds start to pop up in the soil, and ordering vegan doughnuts online.
