Fuck it! Seriously!
Who needs to think positive? Who WANTS to think positive?
You see all those pretty memes on social media telling you to think positive and everything will be ok. But the thing is, when you’re in the THICK OF IT – you know, when your brain is in deep deep THREAT aka fight or flight mode – there is NO amount of thinking positive that’s going to pull you back up.
It’s OK to feel bad. It’s OK to have emotions. It’s OK to have and experience and feel through emotions that you don’t like. It’s OK.
These emotions are your guidance system. These emotions tell you when you’re off path, and the good emotions tell you when you’re on path. We need to feel bad sometimes so that we know when we’re off path.
But you know perfectly well that when you feel like you’re stuck at the bottom of the well, that no amount of positive mindset trickery is going to get you out of the sludge. You need to be practical here. You need to sort your shit out. You need to fucking deal with it because it’s not going to deal with itself.
How do you deal with feeling bad?
You find out why. You find out the cause. You eliminate or minimise the cause. You learn from it. You move on.
So so simple.
Yet so so complex in reality, right?
It doesn’t have to be. You just have to name the Thing or the Things that have thrown you down the well. Get clarity on it. Once you’ve got the clarity, THEN you can think straight. And once you can think straight, you can find your way out of that well, learn from it, and move on.
