I’ve done my first successful meditation with my 3 year old! His brain is always super wired, super busy, and he is pretty crap at sleeping.
Lately he’s been asking for this meditation that I made up for him one night. And today was the first time it sent him to sleep! Usually it just relaxes him, but I’m so happy he’s now managed to fall asleep with it.
Here’s what I did:
First I asked him what his favourite thing is. It’s not me or Daddy or Lego or the cat. His very favourite thing in the whole wide world is strawberries.
So, the meditation is to close his eyes, imagine he’s in a field of strawberries, it’s so nice and warm and relaxing, he closes his eyes, takes a big breath (we both take a big breath here), lies down and falls asleep. Then he dreams he’s in a big field of strawberries. It’s so nice and warm and relaxing, he closes his eyes, takes a big breath, and lies down and falls asleep, and dreams he’s in a field of… You get it 😉
Repeat til asleep! 4 times for us today.
You can do this with whatever is their favourite thing – on a soft cosy couch with the Paw Patrol, in a soft muddy puddle, in the soft sand at the beach.
Repeat the scenario enough times, and it kind of feels like you’re in a weird wormhole of some sort.
I even use the strawberry thing when he’s feeling upset. It helps a little.
I have to say, it’s really cute when he asks, “Can we imagine we’re in a field of strawberries?”
I just talk him through it, and it’s simply magic 🙂😴😴✨✨✨
